The Panther Pride Foundation has set some bold goals for 2011.  To kick-off the new year, the Panorama School's foundation will sponsor the Guthrie County stop on the Simon Estes Roots and Wings concert tour of all of Iowa's 99 counties.  The April 10, 2011 concert will coincide with the dedication of the new Panorama Community Schools Auditorium and will feature Simon Estes singing alongside local student choirs.  The following day, he will be the guest speaker at an assembly at Panorama High School that all Guthrie County high school students would be eligible to attend.

Mr. Estes is an Iowa native and internationally renowned bass-baritone opera singer who enjoys the ecstatic praise of audiences around the world.  The Panorama Panther Pride Foundation is proud to host the event, which will provide all Guthrie County high school students a unique educational experience, increase local access to student scholarships, and afford students an opportunity to share the stage with the internationally renowned singer from Iowa.

To ensure the event's success, the Panther Pride Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is working to raise $25,000. First, the foundation is raising funds to offset the costs of hosting the event. The event costs $15,000 to host.  Of this total, $7,500 goes to the Simon Estes Iowa Education Foundation and $7,500 goes to the Simon Estes scholarship.  All Guthrie County high school's that participate in the event will be eligible for the Simon Estes Iowa Counties Scholarship program.  Additional funds totaling $10,000 are also being raised to support the Panther Pride Foundation endowment to fund academic grants for Panorama Schools educators and students (see Foundation News) and to support Panorama fine arts programs. Fundraising for reserved seating is being done presently.  The Reserved Seating form is available here.  Contact  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Simon EstesPanora, Iowa - - Iowa native and internationally renowned bass-baritone Simon Estes will perform a concert at the grand opening of the Panorama Schools Auditorium in Panora on April 10th at 2 p.m. The event is being hosted by the Panorama Panther Pride Foundation and will serve as the Guthrie County stop on the Roots and Wings tour.  In addition to Panorama Schools, all the high school choirs in Guthrie County have an opportunity to participate in the event, including students from Adair-Casey, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Guthrie Center, and West Central Valley .  The event will raise money for a scholarship fund created by the Simon Estes Iowa Education Foundation for which all Guthrie County students will be eligible.  The event has been scheduled to coincide with the grand opening of the new auditorium completed in early 2011.  The Panther Pride Foundation is seeking sponsorships and donations as part of a fundraising effort to host the event.  Ticket information for this incredible event will be coming soon.

"I am extremely excited about this event and the opportunity it presents to Panorama Community Schools, as well as residents of Guthrie County," said Curt Thornberry, Panther Pride Foundation president. "Simon Estes' talent is awe inspiring. He has a compelling life story that he will share with all the students in an assembly the day after the concert.  His performance in Panora will be truly memorable, particularly for the students that will be able to perform with him. It also allows us to showcase our state of the art performance facilities at Panorama which seats nearly 650."

Estes will sing familiar selections from Broadway and opera as well as inspirational songs and spirituals.  In addition, the combined choirs off all the Guthrie County high schools will perform and join Estes to conclude the concert with the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The concert will also feature an aspiring young artist.

The event is part of Roots and Wings, a series of concerts touring Iowa’s 99 counties featuring Estes along with local choirs and showcasing promising young artists. The concert tour is designed to raise funds for the Simon Estes Iowa Educational Foundation.  Estes will donate 50 percent of his fee to the Foundation that will provide scholarships for Iowa students and support scholarships at both Iowa State University and Wartburg College where he is Professor and Artist in Residence.  Additional contributions are being sought to support the Foundation’s endowment and educator grant program.

“I want to give back to the people of Iowa as they have supported me throughout my career,” said Estes. “Roots and Wings is a project that allows me to share my gift with Iowa, support promising young artists and provide scholarships so Iowa students can achieve their potential and realize their dreams.”
